Unpackaging holidays 'could save money'

Monday, March 1 2010

Britons looking to cut costs could find that "deconstructing" package holidays may save money spent on getaways.

Director of product management for Expedia Jonathan Cudworth said there is a trend for adventurous holiday planning and people wanting more for their money.

He explained: "2010 will also see holidaymakers willing to spend more on flights to long-haul destinations in order to find a better value holiday in a higher quality hotel on arrival."

Places such as Malaysia are proving popular, however there are still benefits to packaging a holiday.

Booking flights, hotel and car hire all at once can result in high savings, Mr Cudworth advised.

Asked whether the trend for cheap travel will continue, he claimed it would because dream destinations are now more accessible.

Santander said last week that more than £4 billion was saved by Britons last year thanks to unpackaging the package holiday.

Cutting out the middle man saved the average holidaymaker £423 last year, it was added.ADNFCR-1794-ID-19643651-ADNFCR
