Tight budgets 'can produce great results'

People who are saving money to make home improvements may be wise to follow the advice of interior designer and Ideal Homes spokesperson Linda Barker.

Even on a tight budget it is possible to create a great new look if the project is properly planned, she says.

Tips on how to get good design ideas include studying industry magazines to discover what trends appeal.

Forming a mood board, which can be filled with favourite items, is a successful means of ensuring a coherent project.

"I think people should really arm themselves with information before they commit to spending money," Barker added.

While high-end products offer good solid finishes, cheaper versions in the middle market are often good copies that can create a similar effect, she continued.

Barker's advice follows claims from House Beautiful magazine that interiors are expected to follow the 1950s theme.

Money may be spent on retro patterned fabrics and free standing appliances, which are en vogue for 2010, it was noted.ADNFCR-1794-ID-19634241-ADNFCR
