Session 2: Financial Statement - Key information

We will now take you step by step through the process of compiling your Financial Statement. This will be achieved by using our specially designed Budgeting Tool. Each of the following activities will link to this automatically but you can also view the budgeting tool at any time by clicking on the Toolbox in the menu bar above.

Once you have entered all your information you can produce a full copy of your Financial Statement which will look something like the sample here. To exit the sample, simply close the browser window by pressing the red 'X' in either the left or right top corner.

  • You should work out your income and expenditure on either a weekly basis or a monthly basis-not a mixture of both.
  • To convert a weekly figure to a monthly figure, multiply it by 52 then divide by 12.
  • Check that you have copies of all the following resources:
    • Pay slips for you and your partner
    • Bank statements for you and your partner
    • Benefits statements or records
    • Information on any other income coming in to your household
    • Copies of all your grocery shopping receipts
    • Mortgage statement/Rent book
    • All utility and council tax bills
    • All paperwork from your creditors (Companies or individuals you owe money to).
    • Copies of any Court Summons or default notices
  • You are now ready to begin compiling your Financial Statement using our budgeting tool.
  • The first step is to enter some key information about your household.
Activity: Your Household information
  • Click on the action link above to access the Budgeting Tool.
  • Enter all your information against the relevant headings of the Household Information section of the Budgeting Tool.
